The North Carolina 100 is compiled annually by the Grant Thornton accounting firm. It ranks private companies by operational excellence and profit as well as revenue range. Participation is voluntary.
Edifice revenue for 2006 was strong and showed promise of continued growth, said Eric Laster, chief executive and president of the general contracting company that will celebrate its 30th anniversary in 2008. Employment is 75.
"At Edifice we continue to grow because we take care of our clients," Laster said. "We are proud of our reputation we have earned for an honest approach as well as for finishing projects on time and within budget."
Edifice has been listed in the North Carolina 100 for multiple years. Laster said it’s meaningful to consistently remain on this prestigious list.
"At Grant Thornton, we take our responsibility to the Carolinas business community seriously," said Mike McGuire, Carolinas managing partner. "One way we manifest this is with our North Carolina 100 listing of private companies. It is a prestigious annual awards program that we believe stimulates the already vibrant Tar Heel economy."
Edifice operates in many states, but about 75 percent of its projects are in the Greater Charlotte region.
Recent projects include:
• The $38 million bus and maintenance facility for the Charlotte Area Transit System
• The $22 million Hickory Ridge High School in Harrisburg, NC
• The $17.5 million education wing at Charlotte’s Carmel Baptist Church
Edifice has extensive experience in sectors such as industrial, retail, healthcare, religious, multi-family, entertainment, office, educational and civic.
Edifice maintains offices on West Morehead Street in Charlotte near Bank of America Stadium. It owns the renovated building constructed in 1930 as a Coca-Cola bottling plant and leases space to several other firms.
